Dances With Refrigerators....

Hot hot hot in Portland this weekend. 103 yesterday (a record) and likely 100 or higher today as well. (We're supposed to break and hit the "cool" 80s tomorrow....)

My apartment is not a heat sink -- I'm on the bottom of a 3-story building, one of those where the front door is actually half a flight down from ground level, and my windows are north-south and shielded from direct sun for the most part. OTOH, neither am I air conditioned, so I walked down to the supermarket this afternoon and spent some quality time roving from one refrigerator case to the next, soaking in the blessed coolth.

This had an unexpected but profitable side effect -- the supermarket was running a "cake walk" today, and I managed to find the right spot at the right time, which meant that they handed me a free two-layer chocolate-frosted chocolate cake.

For a couple of days of hundred-degree heat every few years, I can deal with free chocolate cake....

heh -- you have us beat -- by about 3 degrees (we were between 99 and 100 friday and the same again saturday) -- and it's not better in a big ol' house with all the fans running -- we don't have central air either ;p.

Apparently you've got *our* weather! In central NY state, it's in the low 70s, and we've had a huge amount of rain lately. We even relocated yet another baby newt (an eft, perhaps?) from beneath the rags used to sop up basement seepage.

Of course, we also get the humidity out here. And like so many weather truisms, it really *is* the humidity that'll get you!

A relatively balmy 80-something this afternnon, though no rain's in the forecast for weeks. Highly amusing yesterday, though, when the weatherfolk were reporting temps in western Oregon 20 degrees higher than those east of the mountains.

And talk about Whitman Old Home Week. susanmarie, meet twilight2000, also a sometime Pioneer typist and theater techie back in the day....
