There is apparently a growing kerfuffle in various parts of cyberspace about the plot line of a particular episode of the upcoming Stargate: Universe TV series, for which Hugo-winning writer John Scalzi is a consultant. I happened on a discussion of the matter in John S.'s blog, and -- after holding out for a bit -- failed to resist the temptation to wade in. [Fair warning: as I post this there are 240-odd posts in the reply-stream, and the most significant current subtopic starts about 200 posts in. I find it interesting that they've hired Scalzi as a consultant, though I tend to agree that the "trying to get home" issues do call up echoes of ST:Voyager. (OTOH, Voyager's worldbuilding was awfully ramshackle, so it's perhaps not surprising that the SG team yielded to the temptation of trying to do that scenario, only better-developed.)

ok - see, now *that* might encourage me (the doing it better idea) - I have to admit my complete lack of positive response to any of the actors (and in particular to Carlysle) isn't helping...
