A brief advisory and a request

I've just this evening created a mirror-journal on Dreamwidth (and backed up my LJ content to the DW journal).  If you're reading this and are on DW, let me know your journal ID Over There so that I can build a reading page on that side of the fence.  This applies whether or not you're on my current LJ friends-list.

Let me assure the gallery: I am not leaving LJ, nor do I have any present plans to do so.  That said, what I'm hearing about the latest friends-page redesign makes me think that it's time to implement a backup strategy, just in case.  New entries will be posted in both places (since DW is set up to easily auto-crosspost here).

This is the same Algeh as on LiveJournal. I consider myself mostly on DW but I still check my LJ friends page to keep up with those who haven't migrated. After the upcoming friends page change, I may have to stop doing that (infinite scroll and I are not friends, and often new-shiny-web features and I are often not friends), so I'm glad you've decided to cross-post.

Purely a judgment call. On one hand, LJ is unlikely to fold up and disappear in the immediate term, and right now we're slightly ahead of any Great Migration Wave. Also, the DW user base is presently a good deal smaller than the LJ user base, such that activity Over There is likely to be very quiet indeed unless you happen to be following an existing community or group of friends that's moving or has moved.

On the other, backing things up is never a bad idea, and at the moment joining DW does not require an invite code. (That may change if/when a migration rush *does* start, and at that point the journal-importer may also build up a backlog.)

I'm also attempting to migrate myself to a WordPress Web domain, but it's going slowly -- in part because I want to be sure I set up parts of the new site to properly allow for a couple of sizeable content archives. For one thing, in the medium/long term, I want to put up all the old reviews from my Dragon and Amazing columns.
