Micro-writing meme

Lifted from
vampry(after finally creating a friends-group appropriate to the purpose):
Leave a comment with a ficlet request. Give me a character or two, a title, and one line of dialogue to be written in a 100-500 word story. After you comment, put this meme in your own journal.
Not that I necessarily plan to make this a habit, but I'm between fiction projects and something this short should be manageable. For request purposes, I'm literate in the Buffy/Angelverse, most forms of Star Trek, most animated DC Universe material except Justice League (I'm cable-challenged), a variety of odd-lot animated material ranging from Carmen Sandiego to Sherlock Holmes in the 22nd Century to Zorro, and an eclectic assortment of old or genre TV ranging from Remington Steele to The Equalizer to Xena.

Date: 2004-07-25 09:09 am (UTC)Lost World?
Stargate?
Charmed?
Off to think of something evil now :>

Date: 2004-07-25 09:35 am (UTC)Have seen all of those at one time or another, none all that regularly. Lost World I don't know anywhere near well enough to attempt. Stargate SG-1, maybe, with the proviso that since everything I see is in the over-the-air syndication, I'm a good ways behind "current" continuity vs. what's aired on Showtime or Sci-Fi. Charmed -- possibly, again with the proviso that I am a good couple of seasons behind on "current" status.
Before anyone else asks, I should certainly have mentioned Smallville as eligible; however, I have seen far too little of either Mutant X or Andromeda to attempt those.

Date: 2004-07-25 10:42 am (UTC)OH -- and Babylon 5? I forgot to ask about *that* one :>.
And just as a note: both Stargate and Charmed are showing only one year shy on regular tv (so Stargate is up thru Season 6 (we just finished 7 and just started 8 -- you have wonderful things to look foward too :>) and Charmed is up thru Season 5 -- Season 6 just ended).
However -- as promised, amusing offers for your writing pleasure:
I have to admit I'm torn between some of your choices -- there's wonderful things to be done with Remington as well as Edward Woodward (in almost any role, really) -- but Stargate is one of my current addictions, so...
Character: Remington Steele
Title: On my 45th Birthday
Line of Dialogue: Who'd have thought I'd still be this deep in intrigue...
Enjoy! Off to post to *my* journal :>
Oh -- and in other amusing bits, remember that group of Explorers I once led to produce a newspaper back in the dark ages of College? One of them is getting married next week and has asked me to attend :>.

Date: 2004-07-25 01:37 pm (UTC)The tall, spare detective knelt to examine a rubbery splotch on the floor of their client’s apartment. “Galaxy Quest – Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, 1999. Aliens kidnap the stars of a cult-classic TV show, believing they’re really a crack starship crew who can save them from destruction at the hands of a tyrant.”
His stunningly attractive partner scraped up a bit of the gel and dropped it into a plastic zipper bag. “Mr. Steele, are you telling me that the cast of Capella Prime has been abducted by people from another planet?”
“Not at all, Miss Holt – but that’s exactly what the villains behind the scheme want us to believe!”
“CUT!!!! And print. Good work, Alex!”
////
Off in a corner of the soundstage, the original Remington Steele shook his head critically. “Much too affected. And the script? Remind me again why we’re doing this, Laura.”
“The same reason we always take an assignment,” his longtime partner replied, brushing her wavy hair back over her shoulder. “The south wing of the castle needs a new roof. And Daniel’s boarding-school fees went up again.”
As always, mention of their son brought a smile to Steele’s lips. “In the movies,” he observed wryly, “they never mention that ‘happily ever after’ can get bloody expensive. Who’d have thought after all these years I’d still be hip-deep in intrigue?”
“At least this time,” Laura replied, “it’s all made-up intrigue. And it could be much worse. This Denisof they hired to play you really isn’t half bad.”
Steele’s eyebrows rose expressively. “Half is barely adequate. And their Laura is a mere tart compared to the genuine article.”
Laura chuckled. “Flattery, Mr. Steele. I admit I was hoping for Kirsten Dunst – but one can’t have everything.”
Steele’s reply was abruptly cut off by the clang of the soundstage door opening. “HELP!” said the actress who dashed through it and into his arms. “Caroline’s been shot!”
The detective gently detached himself from the clinging performer and exchanged a glance with Laura. Caroline Palmer’s role was that of the film’s arch-villainess, a fictionalized version of Minor Descoine that both Remington and Laura had decided was more than a little over-the-top.
“What was that you were saying about made-up intrigue?” Steele asked the real Laura as they followed her onscreen counterpart toward the cast trailers.
Laura cast her eyes expressively heavenward. “I know, I know,” she said. “Be careful what you wish for.”

Re: Ohmigod
Date: 2004-07-28 11:47 pm (UTC)Note that the ficlet leaves unanswered the question of who's playing Laura Holt in this picture -- partly because I couldn't make up my my mind, and partly because I decided that while Charisma Carpenter would be a d*mned goot fit for the part, it would have been wildly unlikely in what passes for the Real World of the ficlet characters.
